[DRAFT / OUTLINE FOR A COMING SERIES OF POSTS. NB : the original "matrix" metaphor can be found at least in works of Immanuel Wallerstein, and in works of Jonathan Friedman and Kajsa Ekholm Friedman , which will be properly quoted when the posts are written. I plan to write the posts by relying on researches made by numerous scholars, including the above cited and at least Andre Gunder Frank, Giovanni Arrighi and Christopher Chase-Dunn. The choice to play with the metaphor at length is mine. Any errors or misinterpretations will of course also be only mine. The matrix metaphor is only a metaphor. Of course. The dramatic tone of the introduction is to be taken humoursously, as a kind of ironic reference to "conspiracy theories" and the like. ]
I am going to talk to you about The Matrix. The Matrix in which humankind has been trapped.
1) The architecture of the Matrix : world system, capitalism, empires and hegemonic cycles.
2) How you are plugged to the Matrix : habitus, or how social structures become cognitive structures, and conversely.
3) First example : global systemic collapses as cyclical phenomena.
4) Second example : Are primitivism, post-modernism, traditionalism and modernism as old as the Matrix ?
5) Is there a way out ?
This one is not controlled by machines. It is controlled by no one, but we are under its control.
It did not begin around 2100 A.D, but certainly around 3000 B.C.
It is not a fiction, but a scientific hypothesis about the real world. Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
Problem is, there is no red pill to swallow here. But a quantity of facts to check and concepts to define.
Now, you can choose to quit reading, and believe whatever you want to believe. Or you can choose to stay in wonderland, and I'll show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
